'Little Did I Know' Star Alexandra Rapaport Takes on A Woman of a Certain Age & An Unraveling Marriage
Isn’t it the worst when you’re the last to know that your marriage is over? That’s exactly what Little Did I Know does a sad, though funny, deep dive into with Alexandra Rapaport (The Sandhamn Murders, No Time to Mourn/Gåsmamman, Veronika) as Petra at age 50. In fact, to make it worse, when she realizes something is not right with her marriage, it’s right around her 50th birthday. Seemingly happily married to Anders since, they have two daughters, and Petra has a successful career as an actress. Rapaport sat down with Son of a Binge to talk all about her new movie, directed by Martina Haag, in her directorial debut, based on her two bestselling books, ‘There Is Something Going On’ and ‘Life Goes So Fast. And So Slow.’
The film shows the parallel stories of Petra at 50 and Petra at age 15. At 50, she’s found love and family. But it all starts to unravel. At 15, she’s navigating love and life, and both stories, although the same character, feel like you’re watching two women’s stories, showing just how much we change from 15 to 50. As if perimenopause and menopause aren’t challenging enough, Petra now has to attend her own marriage’s slow funeral and figure out how to redefine herself at 50.
Rapaport shares her favorite scenes, the scene that made her cringe from embarrassment, what it was like portraying a woman who was being gaslit by her cheating spouse, and just what she did to make sure she got the role. Little Did I Know is streaming now on Viaplay, and also stars Ella Hammarsten Liedberg (Seaside Hotel) as young Petra, Gustaf Hammarsten (Thunder in My Heart, Together 99) and Jessica Liedberg (The Congregation, Paradis City) as Petra’s parents Shanti Roney (Tusenbröder, Vägen Ut, Nymphomaniac) as Petra’s husband, and Adrian Macéus (Veronika) as young Petra’s love interest. The film is produced by Bigster with Calle Jansson (No Time to Mourn, Veronika, Honour) serving as a producer.
